The Ancient World | ||
This boutique site is designed to assist historians and others interested in ancient history. These history associations help to network people who share mutual interests. These museums and on-line sources provide additional resources to support ongoing research. At the right is a picture of the ancient world. If it looks very similar to the current world, that is for good reason. As you know, the Earth has been here for billions of years, yet our history covers only a few thousand. That is why "ancient" history has so much similarity to -- and lessons for -- the world we live in today. As Santayana once said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Another way to say this is that those who know history have a tremendous advantage, and a chance for a better life. Your own knowledge of history has probably already proven beneficial in different ways, and will no doubt continue to do so. You are welcome to continue on to the other pages. Additional resources shown on this site are the scholars who have contributed greatly to our understanding of the rise, fall and survival of societies and civilizations: see Rise, Fall and Survival Friendly links: © 2004-2024 sholst |
